According to the Virginia Public Access Project, twenty-eight members of the Virginia General Assembly (10 Senators and 18 Delegates) have announced they will not seek re-election in November 2023. While several members retired after long years of service in the legislature, many others declined to run after redistricting placed them in the same district with other incumbents. Since 2007, the Library of Virginia has archived the websites of candidates for and members of the Virginia General Assembly.

For this week’s blog post, I thought we would spotlight the archived websites of the twenty-eight. The Library’s web archive collections are accessible on our Archive-It home page. Please note that crawler limitations may prevent parts of a website from being captured.
