It's Our Birthday!

In September of 2019, the Library of Virginia combined two previous blogs to create The UncommonWealth. Over 1,400 posts and 780,000 views later we have reached our 5th birthday! Our staff and guest bloggers enjoy sharing stories from Virginia’s history, highlighting Virginia’s dedicated public librarians, and offering a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes into making all sorts of information more easily accessible to the citizens of the commonwealth and users from around the world.

We love bringing you new posts every week on a variety of topics and hope that you find them to be informative, thought-provoking, and, at least occasionally, fun. Along the way, if you’ve learned something new or realized a connection between the past and the present that you hadn’t seen before, well, that really makes us happy.

If you would like to help us celebrate and support our efforts, you can purchase an UncommonWealth shirt or sweatshirt via the Friends of Virginia State Archives.
